Chicago Mayor Announces First Ever Cannabis Resource Fair

Are you interested in becoming involved in the cannabis industry? Maybe you just have questions about what legalization means for you? Last week, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Chicago’s first ever Cannabis Resource Fair in a statement that came only 10 days after cannabis legalization took effect in the city. The fair’s mission will be to provide residents with access to employment and business opportunities, information about cannabis laws and regulations throughout the city, and legal aid and expungement assistance.

A Resource Fair with a Mission

“We’re teaming up with experts representing all angles of this new industry to empower our residents who are either interested in learning more or becoming the next employee, business owner or investor in Chicago’s newest industry, with the resources they need to succeed,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement announcing the fair. The free event, held on February 1st at the UIC Forum from 10 am to 3 pm, will bring together leaders in the cannabis space to provide residents with the opportunity to learn more about the developing industry. City officials are partnering with cannabis changemakers—from businesses and industry experts, to government agencies and social equity leaders. The fair’s day long programming efforts will provide residents with the resources they need to make the most of cannabis legalization.

What Can You Expect?

Informational tables will be located throughout the fair, and break out sessions will be ongoing over the course of the day. In addition to local dispensaries and cannabis businesses, residents will see participation from local organizations such as Illinois NORML, Cabrini Green Legal Aid, Illinois Equity Staffing and the P.U.R.E. Coalition.

For those looking to dive a little deeper, you can attend six main panels that will address the following topics: Cannabis 101 and Know Your Rights, Expungement, I Want To Work in the Industry, I Want to Start a Business in the Industry, Contracting Opportunities and Navigating City of Chicago Regulations.

City employees will also be present at the fair answering any questions you may have regarding dispensary zoning and Chicago Police Department’s updated enforcement policies.
